Cleopatra's Needle (The Obelisk) - 71-foot, 244-ton granite- First erected in 1600 BC in Heliopolis Egypt. It was moved to Alexandria in 12 BC by the Romans. It was then presented by the Khedive of Egypt to the City of NY in 1881.
Claws at the base of the Needle- bronze replicas of sea crabs crafted by the Romans. One crab alone weighs approximately 900 pounds
This memorial to John Lennon is a reproduction of a mosaic from Pompeii, was fashioned by Italian craftsmen, and was a gift from Naples, Italy
Strawberry Fields was dedicated on October 9, 1985, John Lennon's birthday. This plaque lists the 121 countries endorsing Strawberry Fields as a Garden of Peace.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial- dedicated in 1984
American Merchant Mariners' Memorial- "serves as a marker for those resting in the unmarked ocean depths"- dedicated in 1991
"The Sphere" was conceived as a symbol of world peace and stood in the World Trade Center Plaza for 3 decades. It was damaged on September 11th and was moved here as a memorial. The eternal flame was ignited on the year anniversary in honor of those who were lost.
