Next, we went to the Lava River Cave. These lava tubes form when a river of molten lava creates a channel and the sides eventually crust over to create the roof.


We intended to travel the 1 mile through this lava tube, but the utter darkness soon made our head lamps insignificant.

"Ice Stalagmites" rise from the floor of the tube.
