Greetings from the west...

The following morning, we decided to hike the Glacier Basin Trail. This 3 mile trail would take us to a meadow at the base of Emmons Glacier. A sign at the trail head warned of damage to the trail caused by the White River, which shadows the trail. There had been heavy rains and severe flooding during winter. The White is fed by the Emmons (witness the "glacier flour" water)

We hiked the first 1/2 mile with little diversion in the trail. Then the trees gave way to this…

Our way was marked by yellow Caution tape. (Try to trace your way thru this pile of rumble.) We had to scamper over fallen trees and loose boulders. It was exhausting.
