On our way back to camp, we stop to gaze upon the impressive 14,410 ft tall Mt Rainier. With 26 major glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states with 35 square miles of permanent snowfields and glaciers.
Of all glaciers in the contiguous US, Emmons Glacier, seen here, has the largest surface area (4.3 square miles).
